i'm thinking of traveling to Nepal in mid June. All the guidebooks say it's not a good time as it'd be very hot and humid. But this is the only time I can go. Any advice? How's the weather like there in Kathmandu in June?

  1. I would disagree with the first poster that the security situation is not good at the moment. Although there were some bomb blasts at the eve of the country declaring republic, they were very improvised devices and did not casue much harm to property. As some people have been arrested in connection with that blast, one can presume that such things will not happen . As the country has been declared a republic, there is the mood of festivity on the streets. I would say that it is safe at the moment.

What you might have to be a  little concerned about is the strikes, which might be announced at a very short notice. But tourist vehicles are little affected by the strikes.

As for the weather, it is the start of the monsoon season and you might have to encounter rain, if the monsoon starts early. Else, the weather will be hot and humid.

  2. Not very hot...in kathmandu very hot means around 30 and i think june time wil be at 20 or even low when it rains.Security is good and for tourist,no problem on transportaion. You will have an extra ordinary feeling when you travel, definetly the best destination in my eyes.I am from kathmandu ..any information needed can consult me .

  3. Yes, it is very hot and humid. Unlike tropical countries like South East Asia, Nepal is hot closing to summer because the country is not surrounded by any sea but only receives the hot and "dry" air blown from mainland Central Asia. However if you are going for hiking, then i think June isn't really a bad time because temperatures goes down as you moves up the mountain. It would be too cold to go hiking in winter. Hot it may be but visiting Nepal in June is still tolerable. Don't miss Nepal, it is a wonderful country.

  4. In current political situation, it's not safe to visit Nepal. and by weather June is really hot but in end of June there is a probability for raining.

But have to say Nepal is a very wonderful place to visit.

:) You should try lakshadweep to visit in June.

  5. dont worry about the weather but worry about the political situation. It is very volatile.

Go to pokhara, if you follow my advice.
