Traveling to pakistan with a pakistani citzenchip card?

I'm travelling to pakistan in a month and my passport has expired but i have a pakistan identity card which says it alows me visa free travel to pakistan. Is this correct or do i have to take my passport with me to the check in??? Please answer!!
