  1. Online will get you the best metro passes and museum passes. These are accepted in many places. You will use the metro alot!!!!!!!! Eat at Le Duex Magot. This place is right off Rue St. Germain and is a very famous outdoor cafe. Enjoy your first time in Paris and you will continue going back!!!

  2. Well you can get a museum pass that will get you into most of the best museums and will save you having to line up as long as people without tickets.

You can also get a metro card like a Carte l'orange to get you to most places in paris...just ignore the beggers (they go onto trains as well with cards) which was really the only plaace i felt like i was being "ripped off"....I didn't buy much apart from postcards.

Food well resteraunts have menus with prices so you know that can't rip you off (and you chose the tip)...um other places like the Eiffel tower everyone pays the same price so...I'm not really sure what you mean by being ripped off...as the prices are stated everywhere,

  3. Don't be affraid to come in Paris (I'm a parisian man).

For moving, Except if you move a lot, buy tickets by 10. (you can buy at each station).

You can travel in all Paris zone 1 and 2 (for Versailles and Eurodisney where you need an extra ticket).

It's now 10,6 euros for 10 tickets and you can use 1 ticket for 1 travel, in bus or underground.

One thing not expensive and interesting  is to make a tour on a boat "bateau-mouche" along the Seine river. You can take it near pont de l'Alma or near Tour Eiffel.

I agree with some others there are very few french people who speak english, but if you speak englisk slowly you can be understood for basic things.

For eating, all restaurants have a board outside where you can see the prices before entry.

Pay attention, if you can don't take the underground after 8 or 9 pm, and pay also attention to your camera, don't let it alone...like in all great towns I suppose.

  4. You're best bet is to buy metro tickets in group of ten which is about 10 euros.  You can do this through the ticket machine.  The carte orange has now been replaced with the go card and it is only of use if you are staying in paris for a long period of time (you have to apply for them now).  You WONT get ripped off as a tourist.  All prices are stated clearly and despite what most people say, the parisians are very nice and hospitable.  Do make an effort to understand the language and culture and you will have a much more pleasant experience.  Do not expect everyone to speak english, try speaking a little French and you will be met with a very warm reaction 99% of the time.

Oh and the open top hop-on hop off buses are supposed to be good value and you can (as the name suggests) hop on and hop off all over paris.

  5. Been there 9 times!  A truly amazing, fantastic city.  Would move there tomorrow if I could.  A very safe city, and basically you just need to watch out for pick-pockets in the busier places, but not a major problem that I'm aware.  When in Paris (and throughout Europe) I carry my euros in a money clip in my front pocket as a precaution and don't carry a wallet.

Never a worry about being ripped off in Paris.  Prices are posted in Cafés and restaurants, as well as in most stores...from the big department stores like BHV right on down to most small shops.  The people are great, much nicer than in NYC.  I do speak some French, so that certainly helps, but I'm not fluent.

For the Seine boat rides, I like Vedettes de Pont Neuf (about 15 euros per adult).  Night is best in my opinion.  Avoid Batobus in summer...while they make stops so you can gert on and off they're covered in glass and hot as h**l in warm weather.

A ton to see and do, have a great time!
