  1. All the information you require is on the FCO website.

  2. we would not 'expect' you to know anything if you are a genuine traveller here on holiday!

my advice is, yes go to the big citys ie london, manchester etc but not for too long. if you want to experience the 'real' england, travel round the country like the lake district, cornwall, devon, snowdonia-wales. go to little villages in the countryside and see the unspoilt side of britain.

if time is limited, then i would say travel round the coast of cornwall from north to south taking in all the little fishing ports along the way - there really is no better holiday!!!

  3. all you need to know is how to swear, get drunk and p1ss and vomit in the street, be rude, drop litter, have un-protected s*x, try signing on,get into fights, and get arrested.

do that and you will fit right in

  4. Just speak how you normally would, but try to use some of the words they use so there will be no confusion. Research some places and sites close to where you are staying, such as restaurants, so you will be familiar with the area.

Also, be polite!! Since you are from the US, the manners are pretty much the same, but watch everyone around you, and you will see the typical way to act in England.

Last, but not least, just be yourself! And have fun! :-)

  5. Where are you travelling from?

Do's and dont's pretty similar to most countries. Treat people well. Dont spill anyone's pints. Smile to people, say hi if people are friendly. Keep personal space... dont go too close to someone when youre talking to them (keep at least 12 inches or so face to face).

  6. same as most places.  say your please and thank you's, apollogise if you step on someones foot etc.

as for traveling; go to london for a few days but then get out of the city and go to the country or up north.  london is not a representation of england, just like new york isnt a representaion of the US.  go to oxford, windsor, salisbury, york, brighton, the cotswolds, cornwall etc.  there are some beautiful places that are far cheeper than london and a better example of the majority of the country.

dont listen too much to FCO advice, they say everywhere is terrifying.

ignor kevin im asuming he is either welsh or scottish (they have some kind of jelousy thing against the english).  however scotland is very beautiful and edinburg is well worth a visit.  i cant say the same for wales sadly.  a bit cold and soggy really.

  7. It would be helpful to know where you are from. Basically, say please and thank you when asking or receiving and do not be too outrageous until you know the company you are with. Drive on the left hand side of the road and make sure you show due respect to any policeman/women  Also, know the differences between your spoken English and ours
