Traveling volleyball?

I have been on my varsity team for 3 years now, and we are definitely NOT known for our private school . Although we are all are pretty good players, it usually comes down to the 5th game and we lose. I decided this year to try out for a travel team(which I have never done before). I am 6'2 and an okay player, but I have not got the training needed to be excellent. People say that because I am tall I will make a team. However, I feel that I am lacking basics that are essential to the game. There are 3 travel teams this year: nationals, zonals, and nationals. Each with 12 girls on the team. I know that I will not make nationals. What do travel coaches look for in a player and how can I stand out at tryouts which are in 2 weeks?

  1. What the coaches at my schools believe, is every year, to restart. That means, learning the basics again. Because somtimes, you miss somthing important, that could really help you. Example would be, keeping your shoulders down while passing. I have try outs in two weeks also. My coach reccomended me to practice each day just a little bit. I do about 100 sets against the wall, and I just pass to myself on a wall. Being as tall as you are is a great benefit. Being tall AND an excellent player, will make you one of the bests. Another thing you can do, is go to the gym often and weight lift, run a bit, and do things the will help the muscles you use in volleyball. Hope this helps! :]

  2. Make sure you practice and get ready. When you try out, hustle and try to get every ball. You will stand out if you put out a lot of effort and really enjoy what you are doing.
