Traveling with planes..?

I'm terrified of planes. I am claustraphobic and I get nervous and can't breathe on a plane. But I'm also afraid of planes crashing, and I'm going to San Francisco in 3 weeks. Are planes safe? And should I be worried about crashing and how high a plane goes?

  1. First of all, yes, planes are perfectly safe.  They're the safest way to travel.  You'd be much more likely to get hurt if you decided to drive.

Secondly, it doesn't matter how high they go.  Whether you fall from 1000 feet or 39000 feet, you're going to fall at the same speed, and die just as much when you hit the ground.  But the plane's not going to fall, and you're not going to die.

Flying really shouldn't be scary.  There's nothing to be scared of.  A WHOLE lot has to go wrong on a plane to make it fall out of the sky.  One of the engines could literally fall off the plane, and they'd probably still be able to land it.  Planes aren't as fragile as they're made out to be.  You'll be just fine.  Deep breaths and maybe some alcohol would help.

  2. OK, don't panic. The first thing you need to know is that planes are incredibly safe. Did you know you are more likely to crash in a car than you are on a plane?

As for your claustraphobia problem, you will most likely not have any issues with that, as planes can be very comforting. One of the best things is that you don't have to do any driving. You can just sit back, take a deep breath, and RELAX...  nice, huh?

Anyway, just bring plenty of things to do on the flight, such as an iPod or book or something like that. And remember, just enjoy your flight, know there is nothing to worry about, and that you will soon be at your wonderful desitination.

  3. You need to relax. Your safer in the air then on the ground. Cars crash everyday. You rarely hear of a plane crash. Just fly and stop being silly.

  4. Just stay calm. And pray.
