  1. Manchester Airport will be the closest to Stoke on Trent.  I hav eflown from Adelaide to the Uk several times and if you arrive on an evening it might be best to book into a hotel for the night somewhere and travel the next day.

Busses are a bit of a faff, take longer but are MUCH cheaper.  Trains are quicker and better to travel on but MUCH more expensive.  The people at the hotel where you stay will advise you.

  2. I'm from Adelaide too and went to Stratford apon avon last year so I would suggest getting a taxi to the train station(Lond bridge) then get the train to Stoke on Trent I looked it up on National Express Journey it said it would be around 58 to 100 pds  and that seems expensive considering it only cost me 14pds return from stratford to london return but you should also check out the buses and other train lines such as virgin

  3. we've got a lot of airports here in the UK ... your flight could come into one of the London airports (e.g. Heathrow, Gatwick) ... or you might get a flight direct to Manchester which is closer to Stoke on Trent

once you've found your flight then check the following website for trains

    www.thetrainline.com

or this one for long-distance coaches

    www.nationalexpress.com

usually trains are faster but coaches are cheaper .... however if you're booking your tickets more than 2 weeks in advance you can get some good saver tickets on the trains
