I am travelling to England for a semester (4 months) and I am wondering if I should bring my birth certificate with me, or will my passport be good enough?

  1. Bring a copy of your birth certificate (in case you lsoe uyour passport) but leave the original at home.  That way if you lsoe your passport someone can send your birth certificate by courier to you.  If you bring the original you runt he risk of losing (or having stolen) everything (inc. your passport and birth certificate) and having no ID what-so-ever.  At least a passport is fairly easily replaced if you have your BC on you (just find the consulate and ask them for help)

  2. Just bring your passport, but also make a copy of it and keep it separate from the passport.

Also leave a copy of the passport with friends at home, so if both of the above are somehow lost, they can send you the photocopy.

It's much easier to replace the passport with the original passport information than to use the birth certificate.
