Hi all travelling oz from the uk. We will be visiting sydney, melbourne, adelaide, cairns, and down the east coast, which teams would you advise to go and see? Best atmospheres? When does the season start and end? I am not to familier with the ruls but have seen some highlights of the games and think its really good! Are they expensive for tickets? Sorry for all the questions, any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks.

  1. carlton if you want to see a real game and team

maybe west coast if your want to see a bunch of losers and a losing footy team

  2. Final at the MCG, awesome atmosphere, maybe kangas versus geelong in the qualifiying final (if it happens)

  3. I'm from Western Australia but I would have to say without a doubt the best games I've been to see are the ANZAC Day matches between Collingwood and Essendon.  These matches have the best atmosphere I've encountered, even better than the Grand Finals I've been to, and I think that might be due to the fact that 90% of the people at the game are either Collingwood or Essendon fans, whereas at the Grand Final there is a large mix of supporters from all the different clubs.  The Anzac Day match is on 25th April.

    Enjoy your holiday.

  4. The season has one more round in it and then its the finals....best of luck finding a good game to go to! any game that u manage is pretty good since it is a finals which means all the best teams are playing, good luck mate!

  5. I suggest you see a game at the MCG in Melbourne, because it's basically the traditional home of football (No offence to Non-Victorian fans!). I would see a Geelong game if you want to see a great team. If it's atmosphere you're looking for, go to a Collingwood game, there's usually over 60,000 fans if it's at the 'G.

    Hope this helps!

  6. Melbourne is the home of AFL - its where it started and has the biggest and best stadium for watching footy.

Not sure when you will be in Australia but this week is the final week of the season then we have finals.

Where the finals are played will depend on what team finish in the top 8 so you will have to check online.

Tickets to a at the Melb stadium (MCG) will be almost impossible to buy im afraid, but you will probably have better luck if there is game on in adelaide.

Had you been travelling a month earlier, you could have seen a game in every state and watch the best AFL team play - COLLINGWOOD!!

  7. This weekend is the last round before the finals, and as people above me said, the Hawthorn v Carlton game should be a cracker. Not sure which ground its at though, so I would buy tickets early.

The finals start next week, and tickets will be hard to get. But if you cn go to one at the MCG, you will love it.

  8. GO TO THE HAWTHORN MATCH SEE BUDDY AND MAYBE FEV KICK THERI 100

  9. Best atmosphere would be the MCG in Melbourne.

There is only 1 week left in the Home and Away season so after that it's finals and may be a little hard and more expensive to get tickets.

There is a game in Adelaide and a game in Sydney this Saturday. There is also 2 games in Melbourne and 1 in Geelong (2 hours drive outside of Melbourne) on Saturday and another 2 on Sunday.

There is always a game on in Melbourne, the home of football.

The finals fixture comes out on Tuesday.

    Current fixture:

    http://afl.com.au/Fixture/2008ToyotaAFLP...

    MCG - Melbourne Cricket Ground

    TD - Telstra Dome

    AS - AAMI Stadium

    SCG - Sydney Cricket Ground

    SS - Skilled Stadium

Geelong are the best team and are great to watch. They're playing West Coast this week and they are pretty bad, it will be a killing on Satuday at Skilled Stadium.

The best game to go to this week would be Hawthorn vs Carlton, Lance "Buddy" Franklin (Hawthorn) has to get 2 more goals to get to 100 for the season and Brendan Fevola (Carlton) has to get 8 goals for the 100. The atmosphere will be awesome! Might be hard to get tickets though. The things Lance Franklin can do is awesome, see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVdRkfDJP...

  10. Study the fixture, but when in Melbourne you have to go to a game at the MCG. Doesn't really matter which of the 16 teams are playing, unless you want to see the team you barrack for.

You just cannot miss a match at the G.

Been there, done that, 30 senior matches on my five trips to Oz from Kansas, USA.

  11. I live in Adelaide, if you go to aami stadium see a crows match not a port one. Some of the port fans are just feral at best. I dont go for any team, if I did it would be the lions.

  12. Welcome, you will love it here

    Come to Melbourne,

    Go to the MCG.....

..and watch Geelong play.....very exciting team!! the finals fixtures will be out in a few days.

  13. You have to see a AFL game at the MCB or Melbourne Cricket Ground. Its something you have to do in Australia. The best game to see would be a Collingwood Game. Collingwood is probably one of the most popular teams, so if you go to one of their games its probably going to be the most exciting.

You can get general tickets and I think for an adult they are only like twenty dollar general seating.

I know literally nothing about AFL but its fine, the games are still good to go to. They have a good atmosphere. I dont know when it starts but its on now so around this time for like six months.
