Or is it cheaper to arrive at the car hire firm itself and haggle with the agents??

Thanks for your help!

  1. All the deals seem to be better booking from the UK. If you want to try getting a quote, I will chech out from here for you.

From a Brit living in the USA.

  2. yes

  3. Pre-book.  Especially if you are travelling during a busy travel season when car rental volume is high.

Ask about discounts: from your employers, auto club, any group you have a discount card for...can't hurt.

Make sure to ask about insurance - it's my experience that you will have to buy an insurance package here as yours doesn't transfer from the UK - it's expensive, too, so haggling that might be a good idea.

Good luck - hope it's a lovely experience!

  4. Definitely pre-book

Rental car agencies are not fond of one-way rentals.  You will need to find an agency that has a car that they want transported across the US.  You will have as much haggling power with the rental agencies now as you would when you arrive.  You may even have to pay more when you arrive if they have no cars available for a one-way rental.

    HAGGLE NOW!!!!!
