Question:

Travelling and visa problems, any ideas?

My boyfriend is moving to the Netherlands for work in September this year and I will be going with him.

Unfortunately his work are very unorganised and are only just putting together his visa application, which means they have told him to hold off on booking his flights (we will try our best to travel together) until his visa is ready which could take up to 6 weeks.

For me to apply for a working holiday scheme visa, I need to have proof of my flight ticket, which means my most obvious option is to purchase my ticket now, apply for my visa and then change the flight later to fit in with my boyfriends flight...changing flights will be very costly: add on a $100 or so changing fee, plus the difference between tickets.

I know this is very long winded, but does anyone know any other options or flying arrangements I may not have thought of so we can travel together? Thanks!

  1. Try bribing someone

  2. Not sure there are any solutions around the visa issues.

But, if the people he is going to work for are amenable, you could always just book your flights together for 6 weeks time and tell the company that is when he is available to travel.

If they have gone to the expense of producing Letters of Invitation and getting his visa processed and approved, they will be unlikely to tell him that it is unacceptable. Work visas aren't cheap.
