Can you rent out a campervan in Auckland and travel to the bottom of the south Island, leave it with a different rental company. How long do you reckon it would take to do this and how would i find out all the best sites and places to go and visit.

  1. you can pick one up in NEW ZEALAND but never heard of NEW ZEA LAND......

  2. I have travelled by campervan and also hire car and motels. The down side of a campervan is the weather is not always good and to be in a campervan and rain is really rather miserable and cold. Also many of New Zealands roads are windind and narrow. That's not saying though that you won't have a wonderful holiday as The country is awesome ,one hopes for good weather so from november through to march is best. To travel from Wellington to picton on the ferry is really beautiful but one hopes again it's a calm day the trip takes about 3 hours and you wouldn't pay to take  a hire car or campervan on the ferry. you would drop off in wellington and pick up another in picton. If you go hire car and motels then most NZ motels have kitchens. Apollo campervans are big in NZ also Britz/maui. on hire cars it pays to shop around prices vary. Depending how long you have must see places are Wellington a really nice city with a trip on the cable car here you will have a view of the city and a stroll through the beautiful lush botanical gardens. then by road from picton via Queen charlotte Sounds to Nelson out to Kaiteriteri and the able tasman national park then down the  West Coast where you will discover New zealand seal colonies on to Franze joseph and Fox glacier if the day is clear you will see the peak of Mount Cook. on to Wanaka and Queenstown. This is a fabulous trip taking in the ocean, blow holes, lakes mountains and valleys Countryside and towns. This part of the trip I would say 2 weeks for and longer if you really want to soak it up as this is Paradise in all its natural glory. If you want to cover more of the South island and some of the North give yourself a further 2 weeks

  3. You can pick up and drop off at different locations

The main campervan people in NZ are Britz and Maui

    They have depots in

    Auckland

    Wellington

    Christchurch

    & Queenstown

We picked up in Auckland did North Island crossed on the ferry did South Island anti clockwise and dropped off at Christchurch

When you pick up your van you will get a up to date guide to the campsites

    Places not to miss include

    Rotarura

    Matamata

    90 Mile beach

    Farewell Spit

    Fox & Franz Joseph Glaciers

    & Milford Sound

At a very mimimum 2 weeks for each main Island

We did the trip over 48 days and still felt we missed things

Finally If you have set dates you want the van for and you want to use different depots then book as early as possible

    Enjoy NZ         we did
