  1. Definitely concentrate on a few places.  Every Italian city has so many layers to be peeled back and discovered.  It really depends on what time of year you're going.  I actually spent two years in Italy without ever visiting Florence or Rome.  My favorite places were the Amalfi Coast (especially the island of Ischia), Ravenna and Genova.  I also really liked the small towns of Piemonte such as Alba and Bra.

I suggest that you try to book a ticket that flies into Rome and out of Venice.  Then, you can spend time in Rome (4 days), move up to Florence and Pisa (3 days), stop in the Cinque Terre (3 days) and go to Venice and Verona (4 days).  That's an easy itinerary for a first-time visitor who wants to take in the major sites, but it gives you time to enjoy the different cities.  All of the stops are on major train routes so you don't need a rental car.  Also, if you go in spring you'll be moving south to north as the weather improves.

I also have a real soft spot for Turin.  See the link below for info on travel in Italy (it's my personal site).

  2. palermo-mesina-napoli-capri-roma-pisa-fi... they need 1 month

  3. If you don't mind driving I can really recommend it. Then you don't have to plan so much in advance and you can decide where to go depending on weather etc.

The roads are good, but people drive very fast and sometime very reckless.

Sorrento was very nice but  touristy, Siena was beautiful as well.

  4. I am partial to Tuscany having lived there for over three years.  You Have Pisa, Florence, Pistoia, and Lucca for interesting stops. You fly into Rome, and head North via rail after looking around.  It pretty much depends on how much money you have to spend.  The more you see, the more expensive it will be.  Venice and Trieste are nice in the East, but not December through April.

DON'T GO IN APRIL IF YOU HAVE ANY TYPE OF ALLERGIES!!!  Carnivalle (Marti Gras equivalent) is held just before Lent and Via Reggio gets crowded during that time.

  5. Hi,

You should plan your trip well in advance and concentrate on a few places.

To get some good tips and ideas of what to see you should have a look at this site filled with Italy related Articles:

And here is one for updated Italian News:

    Have a nice trip!

  6. There are several places I would recommend:

    Rome: 4-5 days

    Pisa: 1 solid day

Florence: 1 day, be sure to see david

    Venice: 2 days, maybe 3

    Capri: 1, maybe 2 days

    Milan/naples: optional... 1 day each.

Rome honestly has so much to see that you could spend your entire two weeks there and not feel like you'd seen enough... then again, it all depends on how much you want to see per city
