  1. Definately train. If you've got the money, take the ICE, if not... stick to RB and IC (regional and inter-city). Once you get there, Heidelberg has a huge train station (well, not when comparing it to Brussels...) and you can take the inner city train or a taxi around the city. I took the taxi... It all costs a bit, but it's a good form of transportation.

Here's the website for the DB... you can type in Brussels (depends on which train station you're coming from) and Heidelberg and all the info you need to, and it'll plan it.

  2. Since you asked for best route, I must answer the autobahn (highway) form Brussels to Heidelberg as follows.

Town to start/change - Number of highway - (direction)

    Brussels - A3 - (Liege/Luik)

    Leuven - A2 - (Aken/Aix-la-Chapelle/Aachen)

    Aachen - A4 - (Köln/Cologne)

    Kerpen - A61 - (Mannheim)

    Frankenthal - A6 - (Mannheim)

Mannheim - A656 - takes you directly in to Heidelberg.

Total distance: 450 kms travel time: 3:30 to 4:30 depending on traffic situation.

You may also go by train, which takes between 4:20 und 5:35 hrs. There are no direct trains. You have to change at least once at Köln(Cologne) or Frankfurt/Main, maybe a second time at Mannheim.

  3. I was born in Heidelberg Germany. But then we went to the states after i turned two.

  4. By train it costs from 39 Euro up:

by car it's much more expensive but probably faster:

  5. My dear Elaine...

Well... the cheapest way is to take the train (gas prices have sykrocketed the last few months..to 6.00$ per gallon)-You will have to switch trains at least "once", most likely in Cologne (Köln) - We have reduced "summer-specials" where you only pay apprx. 39 Euro (one way) -You can check further details at: www.Deutsche Bahn.de -you'll get exact information about everything at that web-site!! Brussels is a great city by the way!! Heidelberg is not bad either, a lot "smaller", but sooooo romantic with the castle way up on the hill at the river Rhein .Real beautiful!!!You'll love it!! Wish you a safe trip!!!

Send you greetings from Germany & lots of love.... Annette***
