3 of us are going Canada for the first time. And we're in the process of planning our itinerary. So I'll appreciate any help i can get. =)

I'm planning to spend 2 days in Toronto, maybe spend a night in Niagara falls, then travel to Montreal and Quebec and back to Toronto again. Will there be enough time to travel and explore? What are the must do stuffs in each of the places? How about Prince Edward? Anything to do there? Or any recommended places other than where I've mentioned?

Oh, and we will not be driving. So places recommended have got to be easily accessible.

Thanks loads!

  1. Well, I don't know about Niagra Falls or Quebec, but if you're going to Toronto, you should go to the CN tower. The glass elevator is amazing, and I there is a revolving restaurant at the top of it (I think it's a bit pricey). And the Rogers Centre (originally called the skydome), where they play baseball games. But you have to buy tickets for the Rogers Centre. That's about all I know.

EDIT: Montreal is IN Quebec, and I heard it's pretty nice to see the culture there and stuff. I'm going to Montreal in August too.

  2. You should definitely visit Niagara Falls. Via Rail has several departures from Toronto, and it takes about 2 hours. So, spend 2 nights in Toronto, at least one night in Niagara Falls (Niagara-on-the-Lake is very close by and is a charming village with plenty of restaurants, and B & B's). Travel back to Toronto and head for Montreal (about 5 1/2 hours; and they have internet access on board). In Montreal you must see  Old Montreal, the top of Mount Royal, and if you are into night life, then visit the area around Crescent Street, Avenue de la Montagne, Bishop street, etc. Great restaurants can be found anywhere here. There's also fine shopping and museums. Check out the summer festivals, the International Fireworks display, the amusement park (La Ronde), the casino if you're old enough; tons of stuff to see and do in Montreal.  I'd stay at least 4 nights, and you can find  accommodations  in all price ranges. You could also take side trip from Montreal to  the Eastern Townships;  take a bus from Montreal to Magog (75 min.), and swim in Lake Memphremagog, shop, and have lunch, or take a taxi from there to North Hatley, a quaint village on Lake Massawippi. From Montreal the train to Quebec City takes about 3 hrs. 45 min. You have to visit the Old City, walk through the Chateau Frontenac (stay there, if it's within your budget). Again, there are plenty of B&B's. Quebec City is celebrating its 400th Anniversary, so there's all kinds of stuff going on up there. I'd also plan to take the ferry to Ile D'Orleans, an island in the St. Lawrence river. You might also plan to take a cruise up the St. Lawrence - it's a beautiful trip with many opportunities to see whales and other marine life (see www.croisieresaml.com). I'd plan to stay 3-4 nights in Quebec City.

You might then want to travel (by train) from Quebec City to Ottawa (the capital of Canada) (6 hours). Another fine city with great restaurants. Take in the Museum of Natural History, walk along the Rideau Canal, take a walk through the Chateau Laurier (again, stay there if  it's within your budget). And finally, take the train from Ottawa to Toronto (5 hours).

Travelling to the maritimes is not easy without a car. You can get to Halifax Nova Scotia by train, but it takes 19 hours!

Good luck, and if you need further information feel free to contact me.
