Travelling from cairns to sydney in 1 month hire a camper van?

hi

i am backpacking around the world and will be goingto australia (cairns) in july, and travellijng to sydney. me and my gf have 1 month to do it. should we hire a camper van? or would it be cheaper to buy one and sell on in sydney? anyone got any reputable places to hire/buy from in cairns? how do i go about insurance? thanks

Wicked Campers (on the net) cheap, all incusive, and a well know sight in Aus. They also allow small 'dinks' free of charge. Too expensive to but and then sell, the loss you would make plus cost of insurance would be more than the hire. All you need is you full UK driving licence. You are not permitted to drive them 'off road', but with only a month you will have no time to explore the bush with everything else there is to see

Brilliant!! We did the same route in January but we only had 3 weeks to do it. We ended up with numerous hire cars and taking internal flights as the distance is so vast. We stopped in loads of fantastic places and so loads of fantastic sights. I am glad we hired instead of using the buses as we chose where we wanted to go and stop. We enquired about hiring a van but it didn't work out to our advantage as of the one way charge. As for buying one, 4 weeks is not along time to travel from Cairns to Sydney let alone find, buy and sell a camper van. Cairns has wicked Camper's on the main road and there are other van hire places as well, make sure you shop around.

My son has just travelled from Melbourne to Cairns in a '72 Toyota Landcruiser, using it to camp in at times, and now needs to sell it before he flies home. He is now in Cairns looking for a home for it. Interested?

A month isn't very long mate, have you considered just joining other backpackers on Greyhound or Oz Experience?
