Travelling near Rome?

I'm going to Italy next moths, and I'm gonna stay for 5 nights. I plan to spend 3 nights in Rome, and travel to another cities around Rome for 2 days. I prefer to see and discover Italian lakes, mountains, or beaches in south of Italy. People suggest me to go to Ostia Antica, Pompeii, Sorrento, Naples, Capri.

Which city is the best to visit? And how to get there?

  1. You should look into Cinque Terra.  Its not southern italy, but its stunning.  It is a series of 5 villages built into the italian country side over looking the mediterranean sea.  You can hike from village to village and there is a very nice beach on the fifth village.  Very beautiful.  I didn't get the chance to make it to southern italy, so I can't tell you much about those cities. Just an idea...

  2. you can go to the bracciano's lake!

    visit anguillara(little country),

    rent a trullo in puglia,

    visit the ETNA in sicilia,

if you go on Wikipedia you finds many news and places to visit...

  3. There are a lot of beautiful places to see near Rome. Ostia antica is in the urban area of Rome. It is located among the city center and the coast and you can go there by the local railway (a sort of subway). It takes only 20 minutes. Take the train at Pyramid station.

Another place is a town called Tivoli which is famous for a beautiful villa called villa d'Este (www.villadestetivoli. info). It was built in the 16 century and it is worth a visit. You can go by bus and it takes about 45 minutes.

Sorrento and the isle of Capri and all the coast near Amalfi are simple amazing. From rome you must take a train to Naples (1 1\2 hour) and the local train to Sorrento (1 hour).

I've have already been there and I'm going again tomorrow for a few days.

    Enjoy your stay!!
