Question:

Travelling to Italy for £0.44 ONLY?

I wonder if anyone could possibly enlighten me with anything I should be aware of, if I'm heading from Luton airport to Bergamo airport in Italy through Ryanair in June.

I'm hoping to get to Bergamo by 10am & then thinking to take a train to Milan city, spend the whole day there & get back to the Bergamo airport by night & back to the UK.

1. Is there any language problem that I might struggle with, however, I should imagine Milan being a metropolitan city should have numbers of people speaking English.

2. How much the fare would be to travel from Bergamo airport to Bergamo railway station by bus (which I imagine needs catching straight outside the Bergamo airport).

3. What's the best way to catch a train from Bergamo railway station to Milan railway station & what's the fare like & the time it could take to get to Milan & how about the rush hour & chances of actually GETTING the ticket in first place.

4. Is it feasible though to travel to & see Milan in one single day?

  1. the 0.44p doesn't include airport tax, which is at least £10. i didn't read the rest of your question

  2. Irishman in Italy for 6 years here.

Take the bus towards Milan from Bergamo (every 40 mins or so...costs about Euro 5.50 I think one way)...it will take you directly to Stazione Centrale...which, while in the centre of Milan, it is NOT the tourist's idea of Milan. Therefore, get yourself on the Metro (subway) there at Centrale and take the green line train through to Cadorna. Get off there and walk towards the BIG castle you can see as soon as you exit. Have a butcher's there.

Then, walk down Via Dante, it will take you to The Duomo (Cathedral), then left into the Gallery.

As a previous correspondent said above, do NOT expect to find anyone in Milan who speaks English. They DO NOT! Get yourself a phrasebook to point at...(trying Italian pronunciation if you don't know how it works will make you sound like a donkey trying to recite Shakespeare.)

Also, be sure you change your money into Euro IN THE UK!!!!! Don't do it in Italy as 1/ the places to do so are virtually non existent, and 2/ those that do will charge you at least 50% commission.

Final tip...eyes and ears open. You will get ripped off. Not maybe, not perhaps, you will. It's just a case of how much.

  3. you can get a bus from the airport to milan ,you will have no trouble with the lingo  ,its about 30.40 min by bus .you will have a great day plenty to do and see .you will love it good luck

  4. I live in Italy but I have never been to Milan.  One part of your questin did trouble me, the language barrier.  Italy is not like France in that many people speak Englis.  In fact it is very hard to find people who do, even in major cities.  Please find a hoted that is targeted to American tourists so they'll have plenty of people who speak English and can point you to other language-friendly atractions.

  5. 1. you could learn some italian like basic stuff but people do speak english.

    2. the bus is probably not very expensive but i'm not sure.

    3. to see the trains go to www.trenitalia.com

    - Da dove vuoi partire? --> Bergamo

    - Dove vuoi arrivare? --> Milano

    - Quando vuoi partire? --> when do you want to leave?

    - A che ora vuoi partire? --> what time?

    4. milano is very beautiful and i would say you wont see much in only a day but some things you can. never go on mondays to milano because everything is closed that day. (i found out the hard way)
