Travelling to Mexico for about 1 week. How long to spend where?

Question

I am going to Mexico city for business, want ot take a few days for myself to see some of the country. Settlled on Chichen Itza (Cancun) and Mexico City. The question is how many days do i need in each? More interseted in sight seeing, ruins, etc than the beaches.

Secondary question: is there anywhere else that is a not to miss in Mexico that we should see?

There is plenty of places, a week is not enough,

Try to see Mexico Citys Antropology museum then go to Templo Mayor in DownTown (Zocalo), then travel to the corners of Mex city to Tepotzotlan and in different day go to the Teotihuacan ruins, on Saturday go and spend your evening at Bazar del Sábado in downtown San Angel, or Coyoacán.

if you want to travel 2 hours from Mex City you can visit

Queretaro or Puebla or Taxco or stay in Cuernavaca for a change or Valle de Bravo- Avandaro or Tepoztlan (different town from the one above).

I´ll suggest all of this within reasonable range from Mexico city,

Chichen itza is far away 2 hour trip by plane from Mexico city,

theres plenty to see there like Tulum Xel-ha offcourse Cancun Cozumel, Playa Carmen, Merida...but its far away and in week for business I´ll rather stay at the things i can visit in Mexico City and the near by atractions
