Question:

Travelling to Mexico?

I am travelling to Oaxaca, Mexico and I was just wondering about electronic devices such as hair dryer and battery charger- do I need a converter or are the outlets the same? Also, I am going to be calling the U.S. from there, do I purchase the phone cards out there or is there something I can buy out here before I go?

Anything else I should know?

  1. oh little girl over there there is not fashion things neither electric devices no ipods nothing thats why i dont travel there you should go to el salvador there is better things overe there

  2. No converters needed.

There are phones accepting American and Canadian phone cards, but many of them don´t.

Best way is to purchase Mexican cards.

I have been in Oaxaca several times.  You will love it, there is so much culture, colonial buildings, churches, convents, etc.

Do not miss having dinner at Hotel Camino Real Oaxaca, this used to be a convent and it is a must to see.

    Best

  3. no converter needed

  4. It depends from where you are bringing your  things , from Europe no

If you are American or Canadian the voltage the same.

Phone cards are available at most newsstands and stores.

50cents a minute to the U.S.A.---011 the area code and the #

  5. If any of your appliances have a three pronged plug, you may need one of those adapters you can get a the hardware store that accepts a three prong plug, but doesn't have the round ground plug comming out.  Three prong wall receptacles are rare in Mexico.

  6. Electrical outlets are the same, you won't have any problems.  I would check with your hotel, most provide hair dryers.  And DO NOT call home from your hotel room.  Many hotels will add a $20 - $30 surcharge to your bill for using the phone.  You can buy calling cards there and use them from a pay phone.  Or, if you are only making a quick call, your cell phone will probably work.  Check with your cell provider to make sure, but last summer, a 3 minute call to home only cost me a couple of dollars extra (I use AT&T).
