Can someone tell me what time of year is best to travel to Nepal? Climate-wise, I would prefer not to go during the hot weather months... spring-like or autumn-like seasonal equivalents, is when I'd like to go. Appreciate anyone's help. Thank you! :)

  1. The most popular time to visit Nepal is October to November, the start of the dry season when the temperatures are agreeable and the high elevated areas are at their most accessible for trekkers. December to January are less crowded but still an opportune time to reach the mountainous heights though the weather can get colder at higher elevations and there is the possibility of snow to contend with. February to April is also a good time for trekking and to see flora in bloom. The temperatures are mild but can reach high temperatures in low elevated areas. Trekking and scenic views are obscured by the onset of the monsoon season from mid June to September. Although trekking is still possible, frequent rains make for muddy roads, a greater chance of landslides and the reappearance of unsightly leeches.

  2. Basically the best time to go to Nepal is probably during June or during October. If you visit during June, you would be able to go treking in the Himalayas however, during October there are less chances of doing that. However, U can still enjoy the great Bepalese beauty of arts and culture throught the year.

  3. Autumn is considered the best time to be in Nepal. It is the season of festivals when one after anther festival follows. Weather wise also it is the best season just after the heavy down pour of monsoon the sky is always bright and clear. The mountains can always be seen standing tall on the horizon. And every where it is greenery. It is neither hot nor cold.

The only thing negative about autumn is that  this is the peak tourist season so you see tourist every where and sometimes hotels and airtlines are full. So always nice to make the necessary arrangements the earliest possible.

  4. I would prefer to go on Autumn and winter. Autumn will be fine and it is the season of most Nepalese colorful festival falls and it is very fantastic.

Winter is to be pleased and happy with the natural beauty of the Himalayas which is the asset of the country.

I am Nepalese as well and  now I am in SEA region.

  5. Nepal’s topographical extremities govern the climate condition of Nepal. Tropical, Temperate and tundra types of climate are respectively encountered in its Terai belt, midland hills and the alpine region. Therefore people say migrating birds do not have to leave Nepal. Nepal’s weather is generally predictable and pleasant.

The year is divided into 4 different seasons in Nepal - winter, spring, monsoon and autumn. The best period to visit the country for plant lovers is during spring when the flowers are in full bloom. The mountain slopes are covered with beautiful and colorful flowers.

Spring season commences from early March and continues until late May. Even though the days are clear, haze disturbs the mountain views.

Late May, and the downpour begins. It continues till late August.

In September, the autumn season begins. It continues till late November. With temperate climate, clear blue skies and extraordinary mountain views it is the best season to visit the country.

Winter begins in late November and continues till late February.

p.s.The best period for trekking in Nepal is in the autumn season which extends from early September to early December as the season is cool and you can view beautiful views of Mountains.. also summer is also good as the views are good and calm climate in most of the trekking routes..

  6. u can go anytime acept winter cause its chilli in winter.i'm from nepal.but i live in kentucky now.you can see the mountains from where you are.you know.i love it in there.you should go.Have A GREAT trip!!!

    ITS GREAT!!!!

  7. I think when the weather's quite cold cuz if we just some clothes we'll be fine and nepal's lok quite beautiful that time but if u go during summer. It is gonna be too hot espically if ur not nepali means not used to VERY hot weather ur gonna get burnned.

  8. I have been to Nepal 5 times already (cos I used to be a tour leader specializing in Nepal and India).

If u are just going for sightseeing, maybe just a little bit of leisure trekking, then I would advise that the best time to visit is between October to November as this is the best time to view the beautiful sceneries of the country. Although it can be quite cold and chilly during the evening/night, but it is still better than going to that country and not seeing any of the beautiful mountains like the fishtail mountain and the whole range of Himalayas. Just bring enough heat-packs, thermal clothings and a windbreaker and u should be comfortable.

During clear days, the mountains have different views during different time of the day. At sunrise and sunset, the Himalayas is orange in colour... Simply spectacular!

If u visit during a time (during the monsoon season) when the sky is not clear, u will not be able to capture any beautiful scenic views at all.

The monsoon season starts about mid July till maybe late september, lots of rain and it will be cloudy. There was once when i was there in July, the monsoon washed out most of the highways and road.

So the last time, in order for us to travel to Pokhara (one of the tourist attraction where its best to see the fishtail mountain and Himalayas), we had to take the domestic flights which are mostly forker planes. Moreover, the runway is pebble ground... so can u imagine the landing??

Best of all in Pokhara during clear and cool days, u can either rent bicycles and cycle along the river or go on a boating trip to enjoy the reflection of the mountains on the water. Its beautiful, trust me.

    Have an enjoyable trip... Cheers!!!
