Travelling to Paris alone?

I'm eighteen, and I'm travelling to Paris ALONE in July, this year. Do you have some tips how to come from Charles de Gaulle airport to youth hostel L'auberge, 80, rue Vitruve. Do you recommend me to take a bus, or metro, or bus? My French is good, not bad, but also not excellent. I would be thankful for some advice.

  1. You can buy a ticket for the metro i think it also covers buses, which will save you some money so you could use either the metro or the bus, i think its valid for 3 days but you may be able to buy one covering more days.

  2. They do have shuttle buses running out of CDG Airport, but they'll run you about 13 Euros for a one-way ticket.  I've found that the Metro can get you pretty much anywhere you need to go in and around Paris.

There are about eight Metro stops around Rue Vitruve with Porte de Montreuil and Maraichers on the M9 line being the closest.  You can only go one direction from the Charles de Gaulle Metro stop, so just follow the Metro map, locate Line 9 and choose the way that makes the most sense to you.

The only downside is that, though the Metro is your cheapest option, you will undoubtedly need to switch lines a few times.  Since your French is good, you can always ask somebody at the CDG Metro station for the quickest route to where you need to go.

  3. Your hostel is in the 20th arrondissement, about 400m from métro Porte de Bagnolet (line 3).

If you take the metro, it would cost about 8euro and about 40minutes, with two connections:

    * RER B from the airport to Gare du Nord

    * Line 5 to République (three stops)

    * Line 3 to Port de Bagnolet (five stops)

That's the way I would probably go, especially with light luggage.  You could simplify it by surfacing at Gare du Nord and taking a taxi to the hostel, but that's probably not necessary!

The airport shuttle bus from Air France doesn't really go near your hotel.  Their closest stop is Gare de Lyon.  Private shuttles can be easily found on the web, but they can be pricey if you're alone.

    You shouldn't have any troubles!

  4. Seems that u have the other  giving u the same info i would. Train to metro,. but get yourself a map called Streetwise. You can get them at borders or on line, they are a must and have EVERY thing u need , every tine little street and allyway and rer adn metro all on a glossy fold up map! Beleive me u will appreciate it for years to come I am on my second,. Avoir,.

Oh how I wish I could go there I adore Paris esp the arr 2-3-4

FOUR being the place to be on Sundays siince all the rest of PAris is closed !!

  5. There are several ways to get there but I would suggest taking Bus 351 from the airport marked "Nation" which will take you to the Porte de Bagnolet stop. From there it is less than a ten minute walk to your hotel. Just walk south on the Blvd. Davout (which is where the bus stop is) and the rue Vitruve will intersect from the right. Turn onto the rue Vitruve and you hotel should be immediately visible.

This isn't the theoretically quickest way (the bus trip will take about 50 minutes) but it means you won't have to change trains and wander around unfamiliar metro stations with your bag getting lost and bumping into people.

The fare should be 8.60 euros.

  6. i went to paris with a group a few years back and we took a bus, but it was more like a charter bus. call your hotel and see if they have a shuttle that goes to the aitport to your hotel, or hotels in the area. taxi's are expensive, so be careful. i'm not sure if the metro goes all the way charles de gaulle, but that and bus are the best way to get around all of paris.

make sure you get a city map and metro/bus map and schedule. that will be extremely helpful! they usually have them at the hotel. fyi... when we went the Louvre was free admission on sundays. i wish i could go back. it was gorgeous!
