  1. They do it all the time in Europe. There are a lot of places that are still very cheap to sleep and eat.  Travel by train.

  2. My sister and I backpacked through all of Europe together when I was 19 and she was 21 - we had a BLAST!  We got Eurorail passes so we could take the trains everywhere and we stayed in hostels to save money.  There are a lot of good websites you can go on that will rate hostels and people give reviews so you can avoid the bad ones.  Italy wasn't my favorite country out of all of the countries we visited, but I definitely wouldn't trade having gone!  (The French riviera was my favorite!)

  3. Well, you are 18 and you will be traveling together. Italy is a fantastic country, I've been many times. As a teen we bought euro rail passes and they still offer them now. You can jump on one train to the next and a nice way to see the country.Recently we rented a car for the month and just drove from town to town, we met many nice people along the way. Either North, Pisa, Venice, Florence, Rome or the south Amalfi coast, Sorrento, Capri is like the Italian Riviera, Just BELLÅ!

You guys should go it is just beautiful and something to remember, especially together, how romantic. Just know that it is not cheap, but there are a lot of nice hotels and places to eat that would fit any budget. Make reservations for hotels before you go and get confirmation nbrs. Dress nicely since the Italians are just about always in high fashion. August is a very busy month and a lot of Italians take that month off for vaction, its called Ferr Agosto. But whatever time or wherever you go I'm sure you will enjoy its beauty, food, art, history etc...It has sooo much to offer and you will always find someone who speaks English.

    Good luck and Ciao!
