Travelling to the dominican?

I wanted to know if i should be concerned about the drinking water. I heard you cant drink the water...does that mean i shouldnt use the ice too? are there any other health concerns to be aware of?

We spent over there few months ago. Most of hotels are providing good food and drinking water . Better to use mineral water bottles. We booked http://www.easywebhotels.com/Clarion_Hot... and it was quite good.

Hi Bill, all Resorts are providing their guests with small bottles of water providing that they had problems in the past with tap water. Other things you might want to avoid are any fried food or hand made juice they offer you out side the Resort. Other than that everything else is ok, have fun!

Do not drink the tap water I lived in the DR  for several years and the only time  got sick was the one time I drank tap water.   Your resort will most likely place a bottle of water in your room which you can get refilled for free at the bar.  Ice shouldn't be a problem it is provided by a commercial company.  Be aware of course of the high rate of  HIV/Aids so be careful in that regard.

Yes, be concerned.  You could get giardia (not sure on the spelling).  Basically, a parasite that takes up residents and takes over.  It's based on the fact that the sewage system is often crossed with the tap water.  In agriculture, fruits and veggies come into contact with latrine off runnings and thus have the same issue.  Stay away from lettuce, cabbage and other soft leafed herbs.  They are often contaminated and need to be bleach cleaned in order to be consumed.  Most Dominicans do not do this.  For a short vacation where you are eating other's food, just avoid them for the time.  Other fruits and veggies that are well-cooked (potatoes, brocolli) and or peeled (pineapple, bananas) can be eaten without a problem.

They do have bottle water here and ice.  Look for ice that has a hole in the middle, showing that it came from a factory.  DON'T FORGET--Use bottled water to brush your teeth.  Other than that, enjoy.
