Travis Hafner’s double RBIs help Cleveland Indians defeat Colorado Rockies 4-3 – MLB Update
Cleveland Indians’ designated hitter, Travis Hafner had an extraordinary day with the bat as he went 1-for-4 and scored one run including two RBIs in the Indians’ 4-3 win against the Colorado Rockies at Progressive Field, Cleveland on June 22.
The Indians were able to evade the clean sweep in a three-game series against the Rockies and ended up 2-1.
The batters did not perform well in the first two innings of the game and got out. Carlos Gonzalez was struck-out looking and Jonathan Herrera flied out to centre-field at the top of the first inning. Similarly, the Indians’ batters also failed to score
runs and gave easy catches.
The Indians’ second baseman, Orlando Cabrera got out at centre-field and Carlos Santana struck-out swinging at the bottom of the second inning. However, in the third inning, the Indians’ put two runs on the score-board and took a 2-0 lead. Grady Sizemore
singled to right-field and Travis Buck posted a single run. The second run for the Indians was taken by Jack Hannahan. Sizemore occupied third base at the end of third inning.
In the fourth inning, the pitchers threw well and did not permit even a single run to any batter. The Indians’ starter, Josh Tomlin pitched beautifully as he threw just over six innings with an ERA of 3.95 and allowed three runs on five hits including three
earned runs. He struck-out three batters and did not allow any walk on his 86 pitches.
The Rockies reduced their lead 2-1 during the fifth inning when Ty Wigginton struck a solo homer (401 feet) to left centre-field. In the sixth inning, the Indians added two runs to extend their lead 4-1. Asdrubal Cabrera scored the first run of the sixth
while Hafner posted the second run by hitting a one-run homer (388 feet) to right-field.
Wigginton said, “We would have liked to have gotten a sweep. It didn't work out. I guess now we sleep this one off on the off-day and get ready to play in the Big Apple.”
During the seventh inning, the Indians contributed two run to advance the score-board 4-3. Wigginton homered (414 feet) towards left-field and Troy Tulowitzki scored the final run of the game. The last two innings passed without any run and the score-card
was unmoved.
