Travis Pastrana spends weekend in Daytona to prepare for upcoming Rolex 24
The legendary American motorsports competitor and stunt performer Travis Pastrana spent the weekend in Daytona, Florida, to participate in the test and practice session for the 50th Anniversary Rolex 24 at Daytona that is scheduled to be held at the Daytona International Speedway from January 28- 29.
Some of the most renowned sports car drivers from around the globe headed to Daytona to warm up to the 3.56-mile road course and their team’s car.
The Maryland-based Pastrana was present at the location with the other three AF Waltrip Racing drivers, namely Michael Waltrip, Rob Kauffman and veteran Rui Aguas, to test out the Ferrari 458 GT that the team will drive during the opening race of the 2012 Rolex Series.
The 28-year-old action sports icon had been focused towards his driving and few other things that needed to be taken care of prior to the upcoming race before the end of this month.
“I have some pretty simple goals this weekend. I need to learn the track, learn the car and work hard with the other guys on pit stops exchanges. It might look easy on television but getting drivers in and out of the car quickly takes some practicing. The real key for me will be to learn how to drive the Ferrari without burning through the tires. We have a lot of work to do,” Pastrana said.
The motocross legend was pretty excited to get a chance to drive at Daytona, the same place where he had clinched his first professional Supercross race.
The entry of the team that Pastrana will be driving with in the upcoming rally race is a joint project of Waltrip racing team and the Italian racing team, AF Corse.
The multiple-time X Games Gold medallist, Pastrana, was ready to make his four-wheel race debut at the NASCAR Nationwide event in July last year, but a crash during the Moto X Best Trick during X Games 17 put him out of action for the weekend.
It would be interesting to see if Pastrana will be able to handle the intimidating competition that awaits him in Rolex 24.
