Travis Pastrana to be inducted into Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame this November
The legendary motorsports competitor and stunt performer, Travis Pastrana, will be inducted into the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame in a ceremony that is scheduled to take place on November 10 at Michael’s 8th Avenue in Maryland, America.
Pastrana will be the first action sports athlete to get the honour of getting his name enshrined in Baltimore’s Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards, which is best known for honouring the stars of baseball in the past.
The chairman of the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame, Bernie Walter, admitted that the selection of the celebrated action sports athlete was a bit unexpected as mainstream sports fans, along with some board members of the Museum, had not embraced the
X Games events as real sport whole-heartedly yet. The chairman, however, stressed the fact that the controversial nature of the decision of Pastrana’s inclusion into the Hall of Fame did not, by any means, signify that it was an unjustified one.
Walter continued to explain the decision, saying, “The fact is he's [Pastrana] one of the strongest world-class athletic competitors of all time, in any sport. He has a great, great personality and tremendous athletic ability, he comes from a strong athletic
family, and he does a lot of good things for his community. I'm from Ann Arundel County too, so Travis is like one of my own.”
The 27-year-old Pastrana is ecstatic over receiving the honour and adds it to the list of his most memorable achievements. Talking to a reporter, he said, “As a Maryland native I'm so honoured and humbled to have been selected into the Maryland State Athletic
Hall of Fame.”
Pastrana has been making waves in action sports since over a decade and is renowned for his fearless attitude, unmatchable skills, style and innovation. After picking his first X Games medal in 1999, the Maryland-based athlete managed to build up a pretty
nice collection of 10 medals in a span of 11 years. The medals are just a small part of his achievement in the sport. Every year, he manages to come up with a new breath-taking stunt, many of which are usually revealed to public during his Nitro Circus Live
show.
After asserting his dominance in freestyle motocross events, Pastrana decided to spread his wings even wider and stepped into Rally Car Racing. The 27-year-old icon also began a new career in NASCAR racing at the beginning of 2011, though that career path
has been put on hold till next year due to the numerous injuries sustained during X Game 17 a couple of months ago.
The entire action sport community is well aware of the legendary status of Pastrana due to his massive contribution to the progression of extreme sports, as well as his numerous accomplishments. It just seemed like a matter of time before his heroics earned
him a place among the most notable stars of mainstream sports in the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame.
