Hello all, I have read quite a few questions here re guarding fraudulent travelers cheques. Same scenario here, i received 4 cheques via Fed-Ex a week ago. All worth $500 dollars a piece. But, in this case i was able to make out the name of the sender on the package. No instructions inside the package, just the cheques. There was a signature on all cheques (same as sender), but, the other signature area was blank. I researched the internet thoroughly involving fraud in this matter. I even called Visa's 1-800-number and tried to verify them myself. They would not give me any info on them, being as how i was not a financial institution. They did suggest i take them to my bank so the bank could call and verify them. Still skeptical, i took them to my bank. The bank manager called the same 1-800-number i did and was able to verify ONE of them with Visa. They gave her a confirmation number for the verification in which she wrote on the back of the check, and placed the money in my account. My question is, if they are in fact fraud, how was my bank manager able to verify it through Visa and cash it? How does the verification process work? Anyone here have any working bank/ financial institution knowledge? I DID NOT sign my name to any of the cheques, the bank accepted them the way they were, with the purchasers signature on it only.
