Trayvon Robinson comments on bad play as Seattle Mariners lose 3-5 against Texas Rangers
The Seattle Mariners lost 3-5 on Friday, September 23, when they went up against the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The club lost the game and much of the problem was with the starting pitcher. The outfielders however conducted a bad play
decision that was important as the Mariners tried to alter the final score line in the last three innings of the game.
Trayvon Robinson and Mike Carp were called into action in the fourth when the Mariners were trailing the Rangers, 0-3. Anthony Vasquez, who started for the Mariners, was hit for a fly ball by Craig Gentry. The two outfielders ran from opposite directions
to catch the ball but they both missed it and the Rangers climbed to 5-0 with Gentry and Nelson Cruz clearing the diamond.
Robinson, who started his tenth rookie game for the Mariners in centre-field, had a few words to share about the encounter.
"I thought it was a good effort, we wanted the ball, but next time we'll use a little more communication," said Robinson. "That was a tough ball, a low line drive, and it's a big ballpark out here. So I would say we attacked the ball, we did what we were
supposed to do, it just fell right between us. It looked like a movie on the replay."
Seattle’s manager Eric Wedge was not pleased to see Robinson dive at the ball as the skipper believed he should have backed Carp up. The manager believed Carp was near the ball and Robinson responded candidly in the post game press address.
"We live and learn," Robinson said. "Just go out and do it again tomorrow. It's not going to change our aggressiveness in the outfield. If it's in the air, I'm going to try to catch it."
The Mariners will be hoping that the star outfielder will realise his mistakes and opts to back his outfield up in critical moments like these. It will be interesting to see how the Mariners manage to improve their performance against the Rangers in their
next match-up.
