  1. doggy paddle you just kinda flop your arms under water

  2. Treading water can be done a number of ways - it's basically about keeping your head above water while your arms scull "move back and forth just under the surface of the water on a horizonal plane"  your legs then kick.  Kicks used vary by user from

Frog Kick - feet start together, bend the knees out, kick feet out to side, then kick legs down to bring them back together

Dolphin Kick - legs together and begin the kick at the hips moving from the hips to the feet as one unit

Flutter - althernating feet very quickly forward and back

Sissors - althernating legs forward and back

EggBeater - most of kick from the knees down as you rotating one leg clock wise and the other counter clock wise

Doggy paddle - keep head up and push arms forward, then bring them back underwater, legs are almost bicyling.

    Good Luck

  3. To tread water, you need to stay in one place and keep your head above water.  Are you doing this for a swim team or for a life-guarding program?  Two VERY different techniques.

Get yourself in an upright position in the water.  "Scull" with your hands.  Have your hands, fingers together, out stretched and palms facing back while moving your arms backward then flip your hands and push the water forward.  One cycle should take about 2 seconds.

For swim team training: Kick in the stroke of your specialty.  Flutter, breast, or fly.

For lifeguard training: Kick as if you are riding a bicycle with W-I-D-E set peddles.  You'll be kicking more out than up and down, and kicking one leg down as the other is coming up.

To swim doggy paddle: Not sure why you'd want to "learn" this technique.  When I was on the swim team, we did a "doggy paddle" where we used the regular stroke under water, but we were not allowed to bring our hands/arms above the surface.  "Regular" doggy paddle would be just scooping at the water with curved, closed fingers (as if you were making a scoop with your hands).  Again, not breaking the water's surface.
