Question:

Treading water while swimming?

i can swim fairly well

but when i get to deep water, and i have to float (tread) without actually moving and swimming, i'm screwed.

any help here? i dont wanna drown haha

  1. Just need to get the right technique down.  Find a rhythm that allows you to be pushing yourself up at all times.  Generally circular motions of hands and feet in a rhythmic pattern works well.


  2. Take a deep breath and float.

  3. floating is not treading,treading is done vertically in the water,like running in lace or climbing a ladder.floating should be done on your back,laying still,no motion with your arms extended outward,as if making a cross.

  4. I played water polo and they have this technique called the egg beater.  You just bend your legs like your sitting down and move your legs in a circular motion opposite of eachother like one of those old school egg beater machines.  If you need to you can wave your hands in a circular motion as well.  It works really well! During practices they would just make us sit there and do that. Good luck alot of people have trouble with it, but just practice that and you'll be fine! You wont drown! =)
