I can run a mile in 5:50 outdoors and I want to know how fast I have to go on the treadmill to do that?

Does anyone know how fast you'll do it if you go on-

8MPH, 8.5MPH, 9 MPH, 9.5MPH, 11?

  1. Your mile time is 5+50/60=5.8333 minutes per mile

    (60 minutes / hour) / (5.8333 minutes / mile) =

    10.286 miles per hour

So, set it to 10.3 mph and you should be all set.

To convert from mph to minutes per mile, invert and multiply by 60. So, to convert 8 mph, you do:

    8 mph: 1/8*60 = 7.5 minutes / mile = 7:30

    8.5 mph: 1/8.5*60 = 7.06 = 7:04

    9 mph = 1/9*60 = 6.6667 = 6:40

    9.5 mph = 1/9.5*60 = 6.316 = 6:19

    10 mph = 1/10*60 = 6.0 = 6:00

    11 mph = 1/11*60 = 5.45 = 5:27

  2. Cris the others are right put it on like 10.3 to equal your 5:50 pace, but I'd like to say that to me..........a 6 min. mile on the treadmill is like running a 5:40 to 5:45 outdoors.  Usually you'll find its about 15 secs. harder keeping pace on a treadmill.  This is b/c on the treadmill your force to run at the pace you put it on (unless you turn it down) and your stride length isn't as long as it would be outdoors.  I take much quicker steps on a treadmill.

  3. about 10.3 or 10.4, in the early 10 miles per hour.
