Treasure Beach, Tahoe Lake and Point of Entry will fight it out in the Man o’ War Stakes at Belmont Park
If a show-down between the best European and American horses was to be witnessed, Belmont Park would be the place to be. The Grade 1 $600,000, Man o’ War Stakes are taking place on 14th July, 2012, over the 1 3/8-mile course.
Aidan O’Brien’s charge, Treasure Beach, is the centre of attention for this race based on his impeccable previous records.
The four-year-old claimed an immense victory in the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park in August, 2011, where he was led to victory by Colin O'Donoghue and, claimed victory by a narrow margin of a neck over, Cheers Joy, over the 1 mile and
2 furlong track.
The son of Galileo also has experience at Canada, when he secured the third place at Woodbine in October, 2011, and lost the victory by 6 lengths to, Sarah Lynx, in the Grade 1 Pattison Canadian International.
The fact that the Mrs. F. Hay, M. Tabor, Mrs. J. Magnier and D. Smith owned runner has prior experience at North American tracks will work in his favour and, might bring out the best in him.
Entering as a high-weight of 120 pounds, the colt will ride in the hands of Jamie P. Spencer, who mounted him in the two starts this year.
Tahoe Lake and Point Of Entry are two of the best competitors who will battle for the third time since, it was a fight for domination in the Grade 2 Elkhorn Stakes at Keeneland on 27th April, 2012, and it was Point Of Entry,
who prevailed.
The two runners also encountered in an Allowance race at the same track on 12th April, 2012, and Point Of Entry managed to come out on top.
Now, the son of Dynaformer, foaled by mare Matlacha Pass, will be aiming to complete his hat-trick and win the race.
Previously, ridden by John Velazquez in both the victories, now he will ride under the command of jockey, Jose Lezcano.
Tahoe Lake, bred in Brazil and trained by Kenneth G. McPeek will be ridden by Eddie Castro in this race with weight of 116 pounds. Point Of Entry has a better an advantage of 2 pounds, since he will enter with 118 pounds.
