Treasure hunt?

I live in new york. If i find treasure, what happens to it? Do i keep it, or does it go to the land of the owner, or what?

Are you tresspassing and hunting for treasure?

If you remove something/anything from someones property without permission; that is theft.

Why not try this: contact the land owner. Offer a deal, If you find treasure the two of you split it.

If its in State owned waters or Land then the State gets it.

You would be able to recover salvage costs from the State and maybe even a finder fee.

Now if you found a cache of M1 Garands on long Island, I claim them as mine but will split them with you, I only want 3 ;)
