is it true that if you give back the five dollar bill with the pink number five on it to the treasury department, the treasury department will give you forty dollars in exchange?

    The best place to start for rumors and hoaxes is usually the Snopes website. They've got a page on the recent redesigns for US paper money, including the $5 bill with the large purple 5 on the back side. They don't mention your rumor, so it is not very common. I couldn't find it mentioned doing a quick Google search either.
