Treat Conrad Huey battle past Woong-Sun Jun in the second qualifier – Malaysian Open 2012
Philippines challenger, Treat Conrad Huey defeated Woong-Sung Jun in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(3), in the second qualifying round of the Malaysian Open 2012 held in the indoor hard courts of the Kuala Lumpur. Huey
summed up his victory in approximately one hour and 24 minutes on the eve of Saturday.
Both the players held their initial serve in the opener, as Huey drew the first blood and confidently progressed in the set. He broke Jun’s serve in the fourth game and marked his 3-1 lead. The Korean native
was unable to strike a lead and his strength gradually dissolved as time elapsed. The Philippine tennis professional maintained his serve throughout the set and nudged forward to conclude the set with a 6-3 win.
The left-hander, Huey, manifested 59 percent initial serve accuracy, with 15 of 23 first and eight of 16 second serve points. He secured the lead because he capitalized two of the three serve breaks presented,
whereas his Korean challenger just managed to win one of the seven presented to him. A further comparison reveals that Jun had 50 percent first serve presentation, and he secured six of nine first and three of nine second delivery points.
The subsequent set proved tough encounter between the two rivals, as they both repeated oscillated the lead after every alternate game. The 26-year-old Korean drew blood in the third game, bringing the score
to 2-1; however, the scores squared down to 2-all in the very next game. Both players provided each other with a tough competition and held their serves throughout the set, levelling score line five times. Huey concluded the set with his remarkable 7-6(3)
win, after a tiebreaker round.
Although, Jun had a relatively superior initial serve presentation of 67 percent, he converted away 22 of 26 first but just four of 13 second delivery points. His Philippine rival achieved a 62 percent first
serve precision, pocketing away 17 of 23 first and 11 of 14 second delivery points.
For the next qualifying final, Huey will contest against the Italian contender, Riccardo Ghedin.
