Question:

Treating cats for worms?

I noticed that one of my cats has tapeworms (rice like flecks in the p**p) and I also found a long worm in the litterbox - still kind of moving but I couldn't tell if it was a tapeworm or roundworm. I have 2 adult cats and 3 kittens. The kittens came to me from different litters, all with worms and respiratory infections. I have taken care of the fleas and colds, but now I need to tackle the worms. The only problem is that I don't know which of the buggers have them. Short of taking all 5 to the vet and getting each tested individually, can I just treat ALL of them for worms? Is there medecine I can order online or do I have to go to the vet? Anything else I should know?

  1. You can treat all of them, and that's probably the best plan anyway.  You do need to visit your veterinarian for a proper diagnosis and prescription, but if s/he handles the care for all of your animals, likely you will not have to take all of them into the office.  You will need current weights for all, however, for appropriate dosing.
