Question:

Treatment for bug bites?

I feel horribly guilty - I let my son outside for about ten minutes without bug repellant (which I rarely do) and he came back in COVERED in bug bites. For some reason, they're always more attracted to him than others (I was with him and didn't get a single bite). I know they will clear up in a couple of days, but in the meantime, what can I do to relieve the itching? I know this sounds like a very elementary question, but for some reason I rarely get insect bites - so I've never had to worry about how to deal with them. So now here I am, full grown adult, with a son who needs help and I have no clue what to do. HELP!!!

  1. just get an antihistimine cream and put that on them stops the itching n reduces swelling

, he could be allergic to the bugs

  2. Most parents with small children have Benadryl at home.  If you do, rub some on the bites.  Use ice packs to constrict the blood vessels which keeps the histamines away.

Something about our body chemistry that attracts insects more to some people than to others. So don't beat yourself up over this. Take it as a learning experience. When my children were very small, I used to rub Avon's SSS bath oil on their arms and legs before going out to play.  This has always worked for me.  Bugs and especially mosquitoes hate the smell of this. And if you can find citronella oil (in essential oil form) this is very effective.

You can also buy over the counter antihistamine cream. Good luck.
