Question:

Treats for young pup?

How often should I give treats to my puppy (8 weeks)? I've been giving him ice cubes twice a day for fun, and a chunk of carrot that he destroys, and kibble for training. In addition to this he sometimes gets squishy bits of banana, or a puppy biscuit. He's started to get excited when I open the fridge, and his p**p smells like dog****, which I probably should have expected, but am I doing the wrong thing by treating him so often through the day? Health-wise and expectation-wise?

Thanks!

  1. dogs are all greedy b's sounds fine,  a varied  amount of treats- he is lucky you have such a well stocked fridge, am getting excited thinking about looking in it ;-)

dogs teeth are designed to chew and gnaw, and a lot of propriety dog foods add raw carrot to their recipes, I had a pup who went mad for iceberg lettuce when i prepared salad LOL and one ate the potato skins only when cooked refused to eat raw potato...my dogs have also played up and down the floor with an ice cube its is so comical....my brother owns a GSD who would murder someone for their last banana she loves them!!!

  2. Not really long as your giving it proper exercise.

  3. You have not specified the breed of your pup for some breeds like Labradors it is not healthy to treat them through out the day.Ice cubes and carrot are fine but as far as possible try and avoid in between meals treats.Good Luck have fun with your pup and take care.

  4. Never give a dog table food! It isn't good for their diet. Stick to giving him food made for dogs, specifically for puppies for now.  Try not to give more than 2 treats a day, as too much can make him gain more weight. Also, ice cubes aren't a good idea, neither is carrots...they can choke really easily on either of those things.  GL! And enjoy your new puppy!

  5. you really need to watch out what you are feeding your puppy as they have extremely sensitives stomachs.... he should definitally be on a balanced diet of some sort 2-4 proper meals a day and with treats thats good for training... your puppys' poo smells very bad with most definite because of the food you are feeding him.. when not giving them the vitamins needed they can become extremely smelly and always stay away from supermarket animal foods you just need a good premium puppy food...

  6. I say give him as many treats as you like. My 2 doggys go crazy over  schmackos. They have a special cupboard with their treats in and the minute they hear it open they are by my side.

Just be carefull when he gets older that he doesn't get to fat my giving her to many treats. My friend had a bull mastiff and a rotti that each weighed over 100 kg, and that both end up dying because they were over weight.

    Have fun with your puppy..
