Treats to make with kid??

My little brother is 11 years old, and he always wants to make food with me. I got into cooking and baking when i was 10, and i loved it. It followed throughout the years where i could not be separated from cooking from scratch. I never did become a chef, but i like to do it for fun still. Everyone is surprised i did not become a chef, but that's because i can still do it at home. I want to make something like a cake, brownie, cookie, or something like that with my little brother. i promised i will do it tomorrow, when i am there. He has been looking forward to this, but i still have no clue what to make. Any ideas. Something fun and creative. =) Any recipes.

  1. Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies!!! (My favorite)

    Ingredients:

    2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

    1 teaspoon baking soda

    1 teaspoon salt

    1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened

    3/4 cup granulated sugar

    3/4 cup packed brown sugar

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    2 large eggs

    2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels

    1 cup chopped nuts

    Directions:

    PREHEAT oven to 375° F.

    COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.

    BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

    PAN COOKIE VARIATION: Grease 15 x 10-inch jelly-roll pan. Prepare dough as above. Spread into prepared pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pan on wire rack. Makes 4 dozen bars.

    SLICE AND BAKE COOKIE VARIATION:

    PREPARE dough as above. Divide in half; wrap in waxed paper. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm. Shape each half into 15-inch log; wrap in waxed paper. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.* Preheat oven to 375° F. Cut into 1/2-inch-thick slices; place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.

    * May be stored in refrigerator for up to 1 week or in freezer for up to 8 weeks.

    FOR HIGH ALTITUDE BAKING (5,200 feet): Increase flour to 2 1/2 cups. Add 2 teaspoons water with flour and reduce both granulated sugar and brown sugar to 2/3 cup each. Bake drop cookies for 8 to 10 minutes and pan cookie for 17 to 19 minutes.


  2. DESSERT FOR KIDS TO MAKE

    1 bag soft chocolate chip cookies

    1 c. milk

    1 (8 oz.) carton Cool Whip

    Use an 8"x8" dish. Dip cookies one at a time in milk. Layer on bottom of dish. Add thin layer of Cool Whip, continue layering until all but 4 cookies are used. Have Cool Whip on top layer and crush the last 4 cookies on top of that. Leave in refrigerator 1 hour or more before serving. Serves at least 4

    DIRT DESSERT FOR KIDS

    Mix together:

    1/2 stick butter

    8 oz. cream cheese

    1 c. sugar

    Add:

    3 c. milk

    2 (3 1/2 oz.) pkgs. instant vanilla pudding

    Crush:

    1 (20 oz.) pkg. Oreo cookies

    May layer pudding mixture and Oreo cookies in a cake pan, or layer in sand pail. Add gummi worms to layers. Save enough cookies to cover top layer. Serve with shovel.

    FROZEN FRUIT DESSERT

    1 (6 oz.) can lemonade, frozen

    1 (6 oz.) can orange juice, frozen

    2 (6 oz.) cans water

    1 (15 1/2 oz.) can crushed pineapple

    1 sm. jar maraschino cherries

    1 pt. size basket strawberries with stems removed and rinsed well

    3 bananas, sliced in 1/2 inch pieces

    1/2 c. sugar

    Place first ingredients in blender. Gradually add strawberries, bananas and sugar. Blend well. Place in small Dixie cups with a stick after partially frozen or in Tupperware Pop-Sickle containers which come with a handle.

    Chocolate syrup

    1 cherry

    Use the SKITTLES® and M&M'S® for the "crust" in a large bowl. Next, add a layer of Oreo cookies. Slice the bananas and layer on top of cookies. Spoon Jello around edge of bowl. Spoon Cool Whip into center. Pour chocolate syrup on top. Put sprinkles on top. Put a cherry in the middle. It is done.

    LEMON JELLO SALAD

    1 lg. pkg. lemon Jello

    2 c. boiling water

    Combine and add: 1 c. crushed drained pineapple 1 pkg. miniature marshmallows

    Let Jello set in the refrigerator. Combine: 2 tbsp. flour 1/4 c. sugar 1 egg, beaten 1 c. pineapple juice

    Cook the above until thick. Fold a package of prepared Dream Whip into the cooked mixture and spread on the Jello. Refrigerate until served.

    TROPICAL BREEZE

    1 cup milk

    1 cup orange juice

    ice cubes to make 1 cup of crushed ice

    3 tablespoons sugar

    spoon or ice cream scoop

    plastic bag

    blender

    rubber spatula

    glass

    Crush the ice by putting the ice cubes in a plastic bag and hitting the bag against a hard surface.

    Add the milk, orange juice, sugar and crushed ice to the blender.

    Put the cover on the blender, and blend for about 20 seconds until all the ingredients are mixed together. If you're not allowed to use a blender, ask an adult for help.

    Make sure the blender is completely stopped and remove from its stand.

    Then pour your Island Milk into a glass.

    1 (3 lb.) clean coffee can

    1 (1 lb.) clean coffee can

    Duct tape

    2 or more kids

    INGREDIENTS:

    1 c. milk

    1 c. whipping cream

    1/2 c. sugar

    1/2 tsp. vanilla

    1 egg (optional)

    Fruit (smashed), chocolate, etc.

    Rock salt

    Ice (crushed or small cubes)

    Pour all food ingredients into 1-pound coffee can. Duct tape lid on securely. Place inside 3-pound coffee can. Layer ice and salt around sides of small can. Duct tape 3-pound lid on. Roll briskly on hard ground for 10 minutes - cement works best.

    Open lid and drain ice water. Open 1-pound lid and stir, scraping sides well. Re-tape. Re-pack big can with ice and salt. Re-tape and roll again. Makes about 3 cups of ice cream.

    EASY DOUGHNUTS FOR KIDS

    1 can biscuits

    Butter flavored Crisco

    Fill fry pan with Crisco and melt. Have kids shape biscuits into doughnut. Fry in Crisco until brown and both sides. Pat dry with paper towel. Shake in powdered sugar or cinnamon and sugar.

    Powdered milk

    Peanut butter

    Honey

    Also: raisins, vegetables, candy

    Mix powdered milk, peanut butter, and honey into a mixture that has the texture of playdough.

    Kids can form mixture into shapes. Add raisins, cut up veggies, and candy as accessories

    1 c. powdered milk

    1 c. peanut butter

    1/2 c. honey

    Raisins (optional)

  3. just make chocolate chip cookies..they're easy to teach to learn they are a classic and they taste great.

    or make something like choc. chip banana bread he'd probably love to smash the bananas.  

  4. I would either do filled cupcakes or sugar cookies. Learning how to roll dough, or use decorating tools is a skill best learned young! Plus you can experiment with all types of colors/shapes/textures and flavors.

  7. MARSHMALLOW CRISPY TREATS  

    1/4 c. (1/2 stick) butter

    6 c. Kraft miniature marshmallows

    6 c. of crisp rice cereal

    Microwave butter in large mixing bowl on high speed for 45 seconds or until it is melted. Add marshmallows; toss to coat with the butter. Microwave 1 1/2 minutes or until smooth when stirred, stirring after 45 seconds. Immediately add cereal; stir until well coated. Press into greased 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Cool; cut into squares.

    Makes approximately 24.

    CONVENTIONAL: Melt butter in a 3 quart saucepan over low heat add marshmallows; stir until melted and well blended. Remove from heat. Stir in cereal until well coated. Continue as directed.

    Conventional cooking time: 10 minutes. Variations: Substitute post fruity or cocoa Pebbles cereal for rice cereal.

  9. Make a fruit pizza.  Your brother can definitely help with all the steps.  Plus, it's so colorful & healthy too.  My kids love this recipe:  



    Pizza Dough:

    1 package store bought sugar cookie dough



    Toppings:

    8 ounces softened cream cheese

    1 cup confectioners' sugar

    1 large peach, sliced

    1 large green apple, sliced

    1 large orange, sectioned

    1/2 pint fresh strawberries, sliced

    6 ounces fresh blueberries

    6 ounces fresh raspberries

    1/2 cup white chocolate chips, melted

    1/2 cup chocolate syrup

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.



    Flatten cookie dough onto a 6-inch pizza pan. Bake until firm to touch, about 11 to 15 minutes. Cool. In a medium bowl, blend cream cheese and sugar. Spread the baked cookie with the cream cheese mixture and decorate with sliced fruit. In a small bowl, combine melted white chocolate with chocolate syrup. Top the pizza with remaining berries and chocolate mixture. Slice and serve immediately.

    Sometimes I make my own sugar cookie recipe.  I also have skipped the chocolate part & heated a couple of tablespoons of apricot jam with a little water.  Brush the fruit with the resulting syrup to give it a shiny look.
