  1. first of all you have to know what the terms of the treaty were and what was the purpose behind them. the terms were in plain terms :crush the heck out of Germany so that it wouldn't be able to retaliate against Britain and France who were considered the superpowers of Europe.

    the terms were:

1-German territories to become mandates of Britain and France.

2-The establishment of the League of Nations (the founding institution to the current United Nations -it was weak then as it is now) however, the Germans didn't get invited to join unless they proved they desereved to be.

3-The German army would limit its divisions and infintaries.

4-Germany had to pay reparations for all the damages caused by the war. The reparations were to be paid to Britain and France and it was set to be 6 million British pounds. (it would have taken Germany to pay the money up until 1986!!!)

5-The Rhineland, a place between Germany and France would be a demilitarized zone- this is to ensure the safety of France.

the Germans are people who higly consider their pride. and with the crushing terms of the treaty the Germans felt that their pride was taken away. thus, the reactions were those of shame, anger, loss of pride and the most important reaction that paved the way to the second world war was the rise of Hitler. this to me is the most prevalant reaction to the terms of the treaty of Versailles.

  2. The excessive penalties imposed on the losers, Germany, many could say led directly to WWII.  Land was taken away and Germany was required to repay war debt at an excessive rate among other things.  This repayment schedule led to massive inflation in Germany and made the scene ripe for a leader like Hitler to take office.

  3. America NEVER signed the Treaty of Versailles, she made a separate peace with Germany in 1921.  (Sorry, Chrysos)

  4. WW2

  5. Generally the allies felt a need to punish Germany and so there was a great feeling that the treaty properly did this. Though the French under Clemenceau wanted to hurt the Germans more.

I have to point out another erroneous answer above...

"After Wilson's successor Warren G. Harding continued American opposition to the League of Nations, Congress passed the Knox-Porter Resolution bringing a formal end to hostilities between the United States and the Central Powers. It was signed into law by Harding on 21 July 1921"

Not the 75 years as claimed!

  6. yeah, because of this treaty, losers of WW1 aspired for revenge and that lead to world war 2. the provisions are really degrading to the Central powers and nations started to re arm again so it is obvious ww2 will happen.

  7. The Germans hated it and the U.S. Congress refused to ratify it...which is why the U.S. has been at war with Germany for over 75 YEARS.
