Treble Jig strikes the second success of the season in the Jebel Ali Mile on dirt at Jebel Ali on 27th January
Treble Jig, the five-year-old bay horse of Gone West out of Light Jig won the Jebel Ali Mile on dirt at Jebel Ali racecourse on 27th January on a field of fifteen. M Al Muhairi trained winner had three other stable mates on
the field.
Atlantic Brave finished third, Snaafy fifth and Happy Today was sixth.
The 9 to 2 favourite and winner of the race had Wayne Smith onboard, the two tracked the leading pack initially, but once they penetrated through the lot and were in front, they over rode, Haatheq and Atlantic Brave. During the final furlong, Treble
Jig ran on strongly for home with an advantage of 1 ¼ lengths.
A delighted Smith said: "I really thought we were the horse the others had to beat as he is a relentless galloper who hates being passed. To be honest, I nearly did not make it - I was not feeling good this morning, but the thought of missing this
ride helped get me here”.
Al Raihe trained Haatheq, riding with Tadhg O’Shea, finished right after the winner. He fled through the final 110 yards once Treble Jig had won. The winner’s stable mate, Atlantic Brave, paired with Royston Ffrench, finished third.
Al Muhairi could not have wished for a better beginning for his under charge at the dawn of the new season as, Treble Jig, has already bagged two victories through the two starts that he has made in 2012 till yet.
On 13th January, he won the Jebel Ali Stakes sponsored by Shadwell at Jebel Ali that was raced over the distance of a mile and two furlongs. This is the fourth time since 11th December, 2011 that Treble
Jig has run in the UAE, and has struck three victories.
Judging the performance that the five-year-old has sustained, and has continued with during the new season too, the jockey said:
"I feel a lot better now! We will have to step him up in class at the Carnival I guess and something like the Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort back on the turf would be a definite possibility”.
His third race would be the most awaited in a way that it would be his third victory at the Carnival, and also a hat-trick through the very first three starts of the season.
