Hi, I'm from America, and I saw a picture of Auckland Islands National Reserve in a National Geographic, and it had these gnarly trees all over, they seemed to be leafless, but I was wondering what kind of trees they were??

If anyone keeps National Geographic it was in the October 2006 one, titled Places We Must Save.

Thanks!

  1. Looks like they may be Manuka which is a hardwood native tea tree. Manuka is particularly vulnerable to attacks from introduced possums (from Australia) and the trees in the picture are probably dead.
