Today the power company in my area had a tree trimmer cut around my power lines. The power company said not to cut more than 2 feet away from the lines. The company trimmer way more than that, and said it has to be 8 feet from the line. They did this to my land but not on anyone elses what should be done?

  1. It probably doesnt look great, but if your tree falls on their lines guess who pays for the new line?

So its either they do it how they want for free, ot you pay someone or do it yourself, which could be dangerous around powerlines.

You might be able to hire someone to do some repair pruning but I would wait until next season as Im guessing the untility company already took off enough the season.

  2. if you have a tree that gets into the power lines, it's easier on your heart to remove the tree.... rather than watch those line guys butcher it every time they think it's too close..... and never replant another one under the lines.... even if you think it will never get that big, as it interfere with the lines.... plant somewhere else and they'll not bother you again..........oh, the things that go thru my mind when I see what they do to trees!!!.... down the road there's one that looks like a letter "L".... a trunk and ONE branch at the bottom sticking out.... I can think of so many 'interesting ' things to do to those guys.... with their own tools, even!!!..... grrrrrr.....

  3. Nothing.  What is done is done.  They can't glue it back on.  Different power companies have different specifications so maybe trimming company was going by what they normally did.   2 ft trim sounds like they would be doing it every year(maybe they have the budget for it-you pay thru higher costs in your power bill)as it keeps them employed.  Getting it cut that far means they won't be back for years.

  4. Complain to your power company...I am afraid that is all you can do. The county mowers do this in my neighborhood...they don't just mow the roadsides but actually cut down saplings and wildflowers growing on the other side of the ditch in the woods! If it makes you feel more empowered you can always harass the trimmers the next time they come by...maybe dress up like a hillbilly and sit out on your steps cleaning your guns next time they visit. :)
