Do you have a lot of houseplants and have you noticed a difference?

Are some house plants better than others for healthier indoor air.

I think I heard recently that moss absorbs co2. If anyone knows anything about that and whether it's any moss or a particular type I'd be grateful.

  1. it is exactly the same, the oxygen is higher

  2. Don't put plants inside home,in night they consume oxygen,so we can't get oxygen effectively, put them outside, plants need direct sunlight, reflected sunlight would not ensures correct photosynthesis,so they may destrot or theywill consume oxygen all th tme,we don't feel sometimes if we havesmalller childern in homethey feel that suffocation

  3. Houseplants are great ot have indoors as , like all plants tehy absorb co2 from the air and give off 02, effectively "filtering" the air we breathe. The best plants for this are those with a large leaf surface area. Penny plants are good having large round leaves. Some say that plants also absorb harmful free radicles which are given off by nearly everthing in the house!

  4. They provide more oxygen in your home.  Some plants, like spider plants actually absorb toxins from the air.

  5. If houseplants are so wonderful, why are they NOT allowed in hospitals............and as for trees in the streets............yes, lovely, During the summer they block the light, and come autumn and winter they cause accidents with fallen and wet leaves and block the drains and gutters, and until the spring comes, they just sit there, looking untidy. At all times they are there ready to trap unwary pedestrians and are handy for road traffic to run into and knock down causing even more chaos in the even of an accident, and are always subject to the odd gale or two (remember 1987..............!) - I therefore do NOT think they're so wonderful EXCEPT when they're in parks and gardens - THEY are the places for them - not in the streets. They're perfectly able to take in the CO2 and give off the O2 from those places! Now watch all the thumbs-down merchants come creeping out of the woodwork - which is also made from trees! ! !

  6. After reading NASA's "Clean Air Plant Study", I started to bring more live potted plants indoors to improve my indoor environment.  Yes, I feel better just knowing that the plant is the only thing that is giving me oxygen in the room.

"Common indoor plants may provide a valuable weapon in the fight against rising levels of indoor air pollution. Those plants in your office or home are not only decorative, but NASA scientists are finding them to be surprisingly useful in absorbing potentially harmful gases and cleaning the air inside modern buildings."

"NASA research has consistently shown that living, green and flowering plants can remove several toxic chemicals from the air in building interiors. You can use plants in your home or office to improve the quality of the air to make it a more pleasant place to live and work - where people feel better, perform better, any enjoy life more."

TOP 10 plants most effective in removing: formaldehyde, benzene, and carbon monoxide from the air.

  7. Jasmine Peters - are you serious? You HAVE GOT to be kidding me.

Plants aren't allowed in hospitals because they have microscopic bugs living in the soil and on the plant that can cause problems while around dangerously sick people. Dogs and cats aren't allowed in hospitals either yet both of these are very harmless. Put it into perspective!

Also if trees and plants should stay in parks because they cause accidents on the street - maybe we should make cars stay on the streets so they won't run into the trees on the side of the road. I mean it's not like trees jumps in front of cars just to spite the human population.

But to answer the original question - plants will certainly make you happier and help contribute to healthier air. But it's not like breathing will be easier if you have plants. I highly encourage indoor plants but I also think opening windows helps circulate air and get the "bad air" out.

Get a plant that makes you happy and put it somewhere for everybody to see!
