Question:

Trek 7300 - Hybrid Bike - Have i got the 2008 model?

I recently bought a new Trek 7300 from Evans Cycles in the sale and have noticed that a few of its specification don't match up with the published specs on the Trek website.

I then checked against a friend who has the same bike (not from evans cycles) and it is slightly different in a few areas i.e slightly different front forks, different saddle, different designs on the paintwork etc

Most of these details don't bother me, but the main difference is that the tyres keep getting punctures and when I looked closer I realised they are not the puncture resistant tyres specified both on the Trek website and on evans cycles.

Firstly, are they allowed to sell a bike that differs from the manufacturers specifications?

Secondly, do you think I would be within my right to ask for replacement puncture resistant tyres despite the fact I have now already used the bike on a 30mile ride (where it picked up a couple of punctures)?

  1. Punctures are a fact of cycling. If the bike is OK apart from that then fix them and carry on riding.

I can do the same off road ride sometimes I get none other times I get them. Its just part of the fun ,carry plenty of patches and a good pump :-)

  2. Bontrager Invert Hardcase tyres?

Check with your local trades standards

    consumer protection

should be on your local council web site

    or phone book

    check the reciept

    get your facts

    check thier web site

    http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?s...

may be worth an e mail to Trek

    http://www.trekbikes.com/uk/en/

or you could write to trek

do not include a phone number

then if thier response helps your case

take the letter to the Evans

  3. Hey there,

I used to work in a bike shop and it was not uncommon for bikes to vary in specs for one reason or another ( I have never seemed to find out why!)

However you seem to have pointed out an awful lot of spec changes compared to what Trek originally state on their website. I would definately consider getting back in touch with Evans. They are a respectable bike store and there should be little problem with you discussing this with them. It may very well be the case that this is indeed an earlier model of the 7300, therefore Evans would be in the wrong.
