Trekking Adventures around the Globe
Walking is the most natural exercise known to man; it is great fun and incredibly cheap to do. People routinely go on treks across great expanses of land all in the spirit of adventure and fun. The sport has quickly been gaining popularity around the world. In a world full of the most breathtaking and beautiful scenery, adventure trekking is slowly becoming a must do for outdoor sport and adventure lovers. It is not the easiest activity to engage in though, as one needs to be very physically fit and ready to brave the elements, but a trek across a mountain or through a jungle has to be one of the best experiences on planet earth.
The history of trekking can be traced to one of the most beautiful places on earth; the Himalayas. Gorgeous mountains that were just begging to be looked at and inspected from a close distance, led people to making their way to these huge peaks. In 1852 the highest mountain in the world was determined by and then named after Sir George Everest. This act of determination of finding the highest peak in the world enticed many people’s curiosity and many of them started to make the long journey on foot to try and conquer this immense mountain, (Thirdpole Treks & Expeditions, 2009). That tradition spread throughout the world and people wanted to trek to exotic locations whenever they got a chance.
Over the years the concept of combining a holiday with serious exercise has become very popular. Before people used to head to some exotic land and lounge around, but now, with the rise of eco tourism and healthier holidays, people have taken to going on adventure expeditions as a holiday. Some of the most beautiful places in the world to go on an adventure trek to, are Nepal, the Himalayas, the Welsh countryside, India, the Australian Outback and recently someone found a new kind of trekking when he went on a monster trek following the Amazon River from its source to the sea. The intrepid explorer who took on this massive challenge was Ed Stafford, who decided to try and walk the entire length of the river. People in Brazil told him he was crazy, that he would be attacked by snakes, insects and have to deal with the harsh weather not to mention fearsome tribes, (Peter Jackson, 2010). But he managed to complete the task, which he thought would take him only a year to complete. It actually took him 2 and a half years and almost 859 days of continuous walking to finish the intense journey. He said it was the journey of a lifetime and it was the greatest achievement of his life. This sort of unbelievable journey has been done around the world by many people in different location, but with the same goal; to complete the most exhilarating walking experience of their lives.
India has some of the most breathtaking treks that have ever been witnessed by adventure lovers. The area of Nanda Devi in the Himalayas has attracted trekkers for a number of years who come from all over to experience the amazing views and the grandeur of the Himalayan Mountains. The roads are steep all along the trekking routes and the trees and forests that line the side of the mountains are a sight to behold. This area is the perfect spot for adventure lovers because of its beautiful views of the great Himalayas and the little picturesque villages along the trails, (Subhash Kandpal, 2010). India has long been an eco tourist and adventure lover’s paradise because of its colourful locals, the interesting customs and the unbelievable views.
There are numerous ways to plan a trek in a foreign country but some items are essential. A guide book seems to be the most important along with good sturdy clothing, a food and water supply and shelter for the duration of the trip, (Andris Bjornson, 2008). If these items are covered then a trek to even the most remote areas of the world becomes a lot easier to tackle.
Going on immense treks seems to be part of an adventure lover’s nature. They are extremely fun to do and they are a great way to experience another culture and see some amazing sites along the way. In the years to come people will find more exotic locations to go trekking on and will continue to make their own way in the world.
