Tremlett hopes to build his case for One Day spot ahead of the World Cup
England fast bowler Chris Tremlett is hopeful to build his case for the One Day spot ahead of the World Cup saying that he is determined to work hard in the ongoing One Day series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
“I’ve still got things to work on; hopefully I can still do that in this series (against Australia),” Tremlett stated.
Tremlett was left out of England’s final 15-man squad even after a successful stint at the Ashes 2010-11 series. However, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 bowler could still get a chance to feature in the World Cup tournament due to injuries that have been threatening the bowling
in the spin-friendly decks of the sub-continent.
“...unfortunately for me I haven’t been picked, but I still feel a part of this one-day team,” Tremlett added.
The 29-year-old pace-man got a boost when he was awarded with an incremental contract by the England and Wales Cricket (ECB) earlier this week for the remainder of the 2011 season.
The 6 feet 7 inches strapping fast bowler was the key performer of England’s successful campaign to retain the Ashes urn and the title in the land Down Under. He got his chance when fellow speedster Stuart Broad was ruled out of the series when he suffered
an abdominal strain.
Tremlett went on to milk out the best of his chance when he claimed a total of 17 wickets at an impressive average of 23.35 in the final three Tests match. His moment came when he took the last wicket of Australia’s bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Beer-c1949 that sealed England’s
win.
However, Tremlett admitted that showcasing his performance in the Test arena made him more determined to prove his mettle to the selectors to permanently feature him in the One Day squad.
“I know there is a chance that I might be flown over to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 if there is some injuries...I’ll just be ready if there is a chance,” Tremlett hoped.
But Tremlett stated that his focus will be on Sunday’s fifth One Day match against Australia at Brisbane to keep his side’s hopes alive in the seven-match series.
Tremlett conceded that England had a couple of “sloppy” performances in the first three games but they bounced back after a strong bowling and batting performance in the fourth match. He believes that England just needs to build on the momentum that was
gained from their win in Adelaide.
