Tremlett sends http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 tumbling on day one at Perth
The gentle English giant Chris Tremlett was the star of the show as the tourists take early control of the third Ashes test being played at the WACA in Perth.
Tremlett took three wickets and he was the one who started the slide sending back opener Phil Hughes with a beautiful delivery that came in from over the wicket and rattled the stumps.
He then sent Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 back with a ball that bounced sharply and moved away from the right-hander who could only fend at it half heartedly through to wicket-keeper Matt Prior who had the simplest of catches to take.
The third wicket came after the lunch break when Tremlett broke the resolve of all-rounder Steven Smith and forced him to edge one to Andrew Strauss in the slips.
The hosts were reeling at 69/5 at this stage and they did a decent job by recovering through to 268 yet the giant had done his job returning with impressive figures of 3 for 63 off 23 impressive overs.
At the end of the day’s play he took time out for media and made some observations about his performance on an important day of the series that had put the tourists in the driving seat and had given them a real chance of winning the test and retaining the
little Ashes urn.
"It was a big step in my career to hit my straps straightaway and contribute to an important game, so I'm very happy," said Tremlett. "There was a bit of a green tinge at the start of the day, and we made the most with the new ball, picking up those early
wickets. When I woke up this morning I was very nervous, but when I got into my stride and got my wicket I felt at ease and tried to enjoy the experience. I think it's been shown that the wicket has bounce, I felt I hit the right areas on this wicket, and
that I was the man to pick."
While the Aussies would be terribly disappointed with their performance on the opening day of the test, the English team had more reasons to celebrate as they ended the day with out losing a wicket and scoring 29 runs in the 12 overs they had to negotiate
before the end of the day’s play.
Meanwhile Tremlett had to work immensely hard to make a comeback into the English team after an unimpressive start to his career made him stay away from the longest format of the game for three years.
In that time he switched from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 County and was coaxed into getting more aggressive then he was by many of his teammates and one Shane Warne.
The Aussie ace who led Hampshire in the English county cricket claimed that he tired his best to bring aggression into Tremlett yet the gentle giant was an extremely tough man to budge and that is the reason for him not being as successful as he ought to
be with his natural abilities that are accentuated by his lanky frame.
"I was nice to him and supported him. I tried to be nasty by batting him at No 11 to make him angry. But he was just a bit soft. He was a great fella but he needed to toughen up, because his body language was awful. If he has learned his lesson he could
be the No. 1 bowler in the world. He is that good."
For now Warne would be pleased by the progress of his pupil as he kept a close eye on his progress through out the day from the commentary box.
He also knows that his country is in desperate trouble and would have to run through the formidable English batting line-up tomorrow before the gentle giant wreaks havoc for a second time.
