Question:

Trendnet router requires subscription software?

I have a trendnet router that someone else brought and setup for me. Now, there a program called "Network Magic" that has expired on my computer, and my network does not work as a result. I thought routers could operate without software. Do I really need to pay to renew my Network Magic software in order to use my network again?

  1. Do you have Windows XP?  That's all you need.  You can read about it in the Help searching for network. But if you needed help to set it up, then you may need help to fix it.

Its tough to answer questions on line about how to do it unless you are right there looking at it.

Is your internet bill up to date?

You do not need any program called "Network Magic"  for a simple home setup with router.

Did the person who set it up for you install this program?

I would uninstall "Network Magic" and use your OS to connect.  But without knowing your computer router and set up, someone should be there physically to do it.

  2. Uninstall network magic. It is  a tool used by many when they really do NOT understand what they are doing. It is a waste of resources. All you need to do is set your network connection's tcp/ip properties to automatic and they should connect easily.

  3. You know, I hate Network Magic. Just for that very reason!!!!!!

No YOU DON'T NEED IT. UnInstall it, take it off, get rid of it!.

If your trendnet router is setup, once NM has been removed you can simply reboot and you should get reconnected to the internet without an issue.

Then if you want to have a local network, just run the WINDOWS network setup Wizard! You will be working in no time.  (Basically all you need to do is be sure that all your computers are on the same workgroup, have file and printer sharing enabled, and shares enabled) That really is all Network Magic does for you.

Your router has no idea that Network Magic is on your computer and it doesn't care!  It will work without it just fine, actually BETTER!
